The Place with a Holy Name & Golden Terraces
Legend says that when the Crusaders passed through this region on their way to the Holy Land, they were so captivated by its beauty and wine that they stopped and said: ‘We have found Jerusalem.’ Today, Jeruzalem remains one of Slovenia’s most breathtaking landscapes, located in the Prlekija region in the east.
Famous for its unending, curvy terraced vineyards that glow golden in the sunset, winding poplar-lined roads, and world-class white wines, this is a photographer’s dream. It is the home of Šipon (Furmint), a local wine variety named by Napoleon’s soldiers (‘C’est si bon!’). Whether you are cycling the wine roads, visiting the iconic Malek Vineyard Cottage, or enjoying a ‘tünka’ meat platter with a view that stretches to Hungary and Austria, Jeruzalem offers a peaceful, scenic escape.
